the wax on our account; a certain quantity is also sold to myera in Hongkong who attend to the shipping themselves, but the whole of the Paraffin Wax which we ship to Hongkong is for

the purpose of sale in Hongkong, China and Formosa and no wax is shipped by us from Hongkong to any other part of the world.

The trade, as it is done, is conducted practically on the lines of a retail business and it would be extremely

fficult for us to supply you with the names of eventual buyers er the ultimate destination of the goods. In view of the

streme unlikelihood of any of this wax finding its way into the hands of the enemies of Great Britain we venture to suggest that this is a case where the restrictions as at present in force

ould be relaxed and that we should be given a general permit to export our wax from Hongkong to China and Formosa subject, if seessary, to an undertaking that we will not ship such wax from

ngkong to any other county than those mentioned (British Poss-

essions and Dependencies of course excepted).

We would point out that our trade in China has been

Built up in the teeth of very active opposition from The Standard

Oil Co. and other refiners in the U.S.A., with whose shipments

to Hongkong and China there is, as far as we are aware, no inter-
